Aziz Yachou Will participate in UTHC 125 Race details
  • Sex : Man
  • Country : Maroc

Aziz Yachou grew up on the edge of the Sahara in Zagora, Morocco. All his life, his family worked as desert guides, so his background is quite different from that of North American and European athletes. He’s a versatile runner that has succeeded in desert, mountain and road races. His dedication to training, tenacious competitiveness and love for running and its community help him adapt to and enjoy a variety of terrains and conditions.

Most recently, he placed 2rd in the Marathon des Sables. He also has podium finishes at UTAT in Morocco and a handful of trail races in France.

After hearing other athletes rave about this race, he’s excited to have his turn. He’s confident that his dedication to preparation and intense training in the Middle Atlas in Morocco will put him in contention for a podium finish. He will be at the starting line of the UTHC 125 km in September and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see what he will accomplish on the trails of Charlevoix!

Stéphane Eychenne Will participate in UTHC 125 Race details

Stéphane has always loved mountains and travelling. It started with trekking, expeditions and mountaineering through the world’s mountains (Alps, Pyrenees, Himalayas, Andes Cordillera, Atlas and more). He has always run in the mountains, even before trail running became known as a discipline in itself. He has been officially running the trail circuit for more than 10 years.

What he loves about trail running is the fun and friendly atmosphere, the discovery and the discussions that can happen during an ultra-trail run. He is passionate about discovering new places, regions, mountains and countries through trail running. He explored Western Canada on a trip a few years ago, and he’s coming to Eastern Canada to check out the UTHC.

In 2018, he finished 3rd in the TransMartinique, behind two well-known UTHC athletes, Jean-François Cauchon and Mathieu Blanchard. He made it to the top of the podium a few times, including at the Luchon Aneto Trail in 2021.

He is very excited to come and experience Charlevoix, and we’re excited to have him!

A former Laval University “Rouge et Or” mid-distance track and field athlete (800 m–1,500 m), Benoit Didier discovered trail running in 2022 with the UTHC 42 km Classic and the Bromont Ultra 55 km. After these two races, he was hooked!

He clearly has the legs for it! He won that first trail race, the UTHC 42 km Classic in 2022, and took 2nd at the Bromont Ultra 55 km. That year, he also participated in Les Découvreurs à la Course, a fundraiser for Opération Enfant Soleil, on a nearly 60-km course that connected all the primary and secondary schools of the Découvreurs School Service Centre.

The UTHC 42 km Classic will be his main goal for the 2023 season, where he’ll be looking to reclaim his title for a second consecutive year.

Originally from France and now living in Montreal, Benjamin has been running the trails for a few years now. Originally from the French Alps—one of the world’s best locations for trail running—he has piled up the kilometers while contemplating the landscape, undoubtedly his favourite part of trail running.

Benjamin has participated in numerous trail running events, including the SwissPeaks Trail 100 km and the Trail des Calanques 58 km where he finished 3rd. The French athlete recently toed the starting line of the 50 km of Le Trail La Clinique Du Coureur and finished 4th.

For Benjamin, the UTHC is an opportunity to get away from it all once again, to contemplate a new landscape and discover this part of Quebec. He is keen to learn more about the organization and the UTHC 80 km course in person.

During the winter, he enjoys cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to keep in shape. He especially likes the ultra-trails because they make him push his limits.

Gabriel Sanfaçon ran his first trail race at Ultra-Trail Harricana in 2018 in the 10 km event, which he won, setting the course record in the process. A former triathlete and a keen cross-country and track racer, he began competing in long-distance races the following year at the Trans Vallée X followed by the UTHC 65.

The discovery of the trail community, his need for adventure and his strong performance convinced him to give up triathlon competitions so he could fully embrace trail running. In 2020, he ran the UTHC 125 for the first time and finished 6 th . In 2021, he finished 3 rd in the QMT 100 miles.

But 2022 was definitely his year. He not only won the QMT 110 km, he also made it onto the podium at the UTHC by finishing 3 rd in our longest event, the 125 km, just 3 minutes from second place.

Antoine Moses is an endurance athlete and a professional tree planter who holds the world record for the most trees planted in a day. Originally from Gaspésie, he has always loved nature, sports and adventure. His profession gives him the chance to push himself physically and mentally, a skill that transfers well to trail running, another of his passions.

Going above and beyond in endurance sports has been part of his life for a long time. Having run his first marathon at the age of 17, he challenged himself to run at least one a year for the rest of his life. In 2021, he ran his first ultra-trail, the UTHC 125 km, and immediately fell in love with the sport. After that he began training more seriously.

Fascinated by how far he can push his limits, Antoine took part in the IRONMAN Mont Tremblant in 2022, where he finished 3rd in his category. That same year, he ran the UTHC 125 km, finishing 5th after thoroughly enjoying his run from start to finish. He also ran the New York Marathon in 2:51:12.

Adrienne is an ultra-runner from Whitehorse, Yukon. She started trail running in Edmonton as another way to race and compete following cross-country skiing in university. She started by competing in 5 Peaks races, but wanted to see how far she could run. Her connection to the running community is what keeps her coming back to ultra-running and is part of the reason she loves it so much.

She ran her first ultra in 2015 at TrailStoke in Revelstoke, where she placed 3rd. Since then, she has had the opportunity to participate in many multi-day events including the GORE-TEX Transalpine Run in 2019. She has competed in several ultras since 2016, finishing on the podium for most and placing in the top 10 in others.

Most of her races have been in Western Canada, so she’s excited to come explore the trails of Charlevoix, and we’re thrilled she’s coming!

Karel Cadoret, 24, made a stunning entry into the world of trail running in 2021 by placing in the top five at several races on the Quebec calendar.

She won 3rd place in the UTHC 28 km during her very first year of trail running, 2nd in the TransVallée 20 km, 2nd in the 18 km of the Trail du Grand-Duc and 3rd in the Gaspesia Ultra-Trail 54 km.

In addition to racing, she is also very involved in the community. She founded the 6AM Club in Limoilou and volunteers at events whenever she has the chance. She will compete in the UTHC 28 km for the second time in September.

Already an established runner, Flavie Pelletier started trail running more seriously while living in Vancouver, British Columbia, as she worked toward her bachelor’s degree. Moving to Germany for a year for her master’s provided the perfect opportunity to race all over Europe. She’s now back in Montreal and pushing herself on the technical Quebec trails.

Charlevoix is one of Flavie’s favourite regions, and running these trails is always a joy. Even though she’s a pretty low-key person, she always enjoys meeting new runners and building community with other passionate runners.

Flavie has built an impressive track record, including top finishes at the QMT 80 km and the Trail du Grand-Duc 35 km in 2022 and a 2nd-place finish at the Orcas Island 50 km in 2020. She’ll be back at the UTHC this year to compete on the 65-km course after an unfortunate DNF in the 125-km race in 2021.

Johanie Béland started trail running when one of her Cégep teachers encouraged her to register for the 24 km Grand Duke Trail in 2019. To her surprise, she finished 2nd in the women’s competition. This event was the beginning of a beautiful love story with the trails, spurring her on to compete in various races and to develop a passion for long distances.

She feels most at home in the woods, with her running shoes on. Her summers are a festival of races and sporting events, where she mixes triathlon and ultra-trail competitions. In 2022, she finished 4th in the women’s competition on the Trail du Grand-Duc 50 km and 4th in the elite women’s race of the Trail La Clinique Du Coureur 50 km. That same year, she took 2nd at the UTHC 65 km.

She wants to inspire others to trust themselves and dive into what they love even if it’s scary. Finishing 2nd in the event last year, she’ll have her sights set on 1st place in this year’s UTHC 65 km. But she mostly just wants to have fun.

In June 2022, she ran the Trail La Clinique Du Coureur 20 km. With zero expectations even though she set a personal record in the 5 km the day before, she finished 2nd in the race. The same year, she finished 1st in the P’tit Train du Nord half marathon and 3rd at the Provincial Cross-Country Championships.

Since her first trail competition, she’s ramped up her long outings and feels more ready than ever to test her physical and psychological abilities in a new distance. Laurianne will be at the starting line of the UTHC 42 km in September.
